Poetry By Yeats

What brought this poem to my mind was Milli and Lorie's crazy cat. Noisiest cat I've ever seen.

THE CAT AND THE MOON

by: W. B. Yeats (1865-1939)

HE cat went here and there
And the moon spun round like a top,
And the nearest kin of the moon,
The creeping cat, looked up.
Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon,
For, wander and wail as he would,
The pure cold light in the sky
Troubled his animal blood.
Minnaloushe runs in the grass
Lifting his delicate feet.
Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?
When two close kindred meet,
What better than call a dance?
Maybe the moon may learn,
Tired of that courtly fashion,
A new dance turn.
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
From moonlit place to place,
The sacred moon overhead
Has taken a new phase.
Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils
Will pass from change to change,
And that from round to crescent,
From crescent to round they range?
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
Alone, important and wise,
And lifts to the changing moon
His changing eyes.

"The Cat and the Moon" is reprinted from The Wild Swans at Coole. W.B. Yeats. New York: Macmillan, 1919.

You should have a contest to rename the cat. I don't think Phoebe suits her at all- which is why I always call her 'Kitty'. Phoebe is far too innocent and lady-like for her. She is wacked.

Excellent idea. Let's have a contest. Anyone got suggestions? The winner gets a barrel o' respect.

Did you know they actually have sites dedicated to naming your cat? I'm convinced you can google anything now. My favorites from google: Bojangles and Calamity Jane (you could call her CJ)

I think Calamity Jane would fit this cat very well. Emily, you are a strong early candidate to win this contest.

Other entrants?

The word 'Calamity' certainly fits her personality. I personally always wanted to name her after some very boisterous blues or jazz singer. She is sitting beside me right now, trying to pull my hands away from the keyboard and screaming for me to pet her.

Is this Lorie's cat? What does she think of changing its name?

Lorie wants to name her "Dylan," after Lorie's favorite singer.
